Did You Miss Last Weeks Newsletter? Well here you GO
Hola, Hola!!
It’s been a wild week.
I have spent a lot of time outside of the house exploring our city, entertaining friends and working through some health issues that seem to want to linger and make me sleep soooooo much.
First, I am feeling a bit nostalgic about missing this week in Annapolis, Maryland. It was my 2nd favorite week to live there because the new Plebes start their career at the Naval Academy and as a tour guide, I was super busy giving tours to hundreds of family members. (My first favorite week is when they graduate or Commission and the whole town celebrates with them). I am going to miss it and have been watching from afar the nervous family members getting ready for the big day.
What I am NOT missing about this event is the weather! Hello!!? It’s over 100 degrees. I saw reports that DC was going to hover near 110 degrees. How perfectly awful for those kids, especially the ones from Oregon or Washington State.
Then we spent some time trying out new places to eat or grab a drink and have been fairly successful. Guanajuato has no shortage of places to eat, but I sadly have to admit that many of them are not great. Weird, right? And I picked up some food aversions since being here. I don’t want anything to do with chorizo now or pig skin in any form.
The same thing happened when living in Germany, there are some strong tasting foods that I really loved upon arrival but after a short time, I wanted nothing to do with them anymore. They made me queasy.
I will get passed it.
They key is cooking at home more and putting together recipes where I can access the ingredients easily. I am working on this project still.
But we did have another fun dinner at my home this week! We discovered a restaurant just outside our city that smokes brisket and ribs and we decided to cater with them. They dropped off the food at our home along with corn and mash potatoes and I added mac and cheese and cornbread muffins and called it a party. We invited our short-term visiting friends and neighbors to come hang out and it was really good and enjoyable. Reminded me of home a little bit. We are definitely going to add this outdoor restaurant on to our monthly schedule to visit.
Tomorrow we leave for San Miguel de Allende!
I signed up for an art class for the fun of it and I am really excited to explore this nearby city and see what I can get into. I will take y’all along with me on my IG stories per usual.
If you don’t know, San Miguel is an artist haven. They seem to congregate there from all over the world and the art scene is spectacular. I can’t wait to get there.
If you have been following me via my IG stories, you know this week it has been non-stop rain here in Guanajuato. The rainy season is not always this productive, but it is always needed when it does occur. It fills our water reservoirs to the brim so it can serve us for the rest of the year.
My backyard is also just showing off like crazy. Here is a video where I discovered a rather large tarantula hanging out on the stone wall and then refused to walk passed it until Keith put it back into the dirt to make its escape.
I shared the video with the homeowner who was very excited about it because she is a Botanist and said the eco-system in the garden must be amazing in order for that creature to thrive there.
Great! 🙄
But I got to thinking… wouldn’t it be so fun to share my garden (and home) with as many people as possible? How would I do something like this?
I bet y’all have some ideas (tell me in the comments) but I was thinking about art retreats that visit or are staying here in Guanajuato.
Wouldn’t it be fun to have art groups come for 1/2 a day to sketch the hundreds of indigenous plant species in my yard!? I could set up chairs and still scenes all over my garden.
And then I could give quick home tours and answer questions about moving to Mexico if there is some curiosity around that subject. As a bonus, I am super close to a spectacular church and silver mine.
I think it would be so fun! A big dose of nature but still have private parking and 4 bathrooms one can use! You know, the important stuff?!
And I know I am not alone when I say I am super nosey and love seeing how the locals live. Being able to go inside a personal home or two are the extra details on a trip that would make it GREAT.
What do you think?
How would you advertise something like this?
The Big Experiment!
Last week I mentioned the new schedule in which I was going to offer my art to you. Just a quick recap…
Original work on paper and canvas will only be offered 2x a year, March and October. I will start advertising and showing the collection off in January and August so there will be no way to miss it!
Prints will be offered throughout the year with the help of my professional printer shop in California (this is the experiment part to me! Giving up control is hard).
I have decided to ALWAYS offer the Grace and Grit girls that you see above. While all the originals have sold, these prints will be available to you for the long term.
Go check them out on my website.
I have to streamline this process, so the only size available will be the luxurious 16x20 inch print. It is my personal favorite size though if you want something different I am willing to work with you if you reach out.
In the future, I am going to offer additional prints but the difference will be that there will only be a small number of them available and once they are gone- that is it! No more prints of that original will ever be available again.
So, limited edition prints are coming!
I have been living in Guanajuato for almost 6 months now and it has taken this long to crystalize how I am going to continue on my art journey. And I love when a plan comes together!!
Thank you for being here.
BTW- last week I talked about setting up zones and moving my computer back into the sunroom and out of the art studio was exactly the right answer for better productivity. It works and I hope you try it.
